World Water Day 2018
22-03-2018
Today is World Water Day. Occurring annually on 22nd March, World Water Day is organised by the United Nations (UN) to help highlight the importance of fresh water.
The focus for World Water Day 2018 is 'Nature for Water', which aims to explore nature-based solutions to the water challenges of the 21st century.
The UN's Goal
In 2018, 2.1 billion people live without safe drinking water at home, affecting their health, education and livelihoods. This is caused by damaged ecosystems that impact the quantity and quality of water available for human consumption. The UN's goal is to ensure everyone worldwide has access to safe drinking water by 2030, in addition to protecting the natural environment and reducing pollution.
'Nature for Water'
2018 marks the 25th year of World Water Day, and the 8th World Water Forum is being held in Brasilia, Brazil. With the 'Nature for Water' theme this year, the forum will focus on nature-based solutions to reduce floods, droughts and water pollution, whilst protecting ecosystems and restoring wetlands to rebalance the water cycle and improve human health and livelihoods.
WaterSafe
Here in the UK, organisations such as WaterSafe ensure plumbing companies operate responsibly to help keep water supplies safe and healthy for UK homes and businesses. Operating under WaterSafe's Approved Plumbers Scheme, the Water Regulations Advisory Scheme (WRAS) helps customers find qualified plumbers that helps prevent the risk of drinking water being contaminated by poor plumbing workmanship or low quality products.
Water Regulations
As a company, M&N Heating & Plumbing complies with the Water Supply (Water Fittings) Regulations set out by the WRAS to protect public health, safeguard water supplies and promote efficient use of water within our customers' homes.
Improve Your Water Efficiency
Do you have a continuous dripping tap? It's estimated that household leaks account for more than 10,000 gallons wasted water every year worldwide. Fixing a leaky tap could save you money and help play your part in improving water efficiency in the UK.
